Content Refresh

A content refresh is the process of updating an existing published page to improve its accuracy, comprehensiveness, and relevance without changing its URL. Typical refresh tasks include replacing outdated statistics, adding sections on developments that have occurred since publication, updating screenshots and product names, improving the structure, and removing information that is no longer accurate. Refreshing is typically preferred over republishing on a new URL because the existing page retains its backlink profile, indexing history, and any accumulated PageRank. Updating the publication date signals freshness to both users and crawlers, and can trigger re-evaluation by Google’s systems — often leading to ranking improvements. Content refresh prioritisation is usually based on traffic decline data from Google Search Console, targeting pages experiencing content decay.
