Entity Salience

Entity salience is a measure of how central or prominent a named entity—such as a person, organisation, place, or concept—is within a given piece of content, as determined by an NLP system. A highly salient entity is one that the document is primarily about, appearing frequently, in prominent positions such as the title and first paragraph, and in strong semantic association with other key entities in the text. Google has incorporated entity salience analysis into its understanding of web content, using it to determine which entities a page is most authoritative about and how that page should be represented in the Knowledge Graph. For SEO practitioners, entity salience has practical implications: pages that are clearly and consistently about a single primary entity, with supporting entities that reinforce rather than distract from the main subject, tend to perform better for entity-related queries. Writing with a clear topical focus and using the entity’s correct canonical name improves salience signals.
