The Helpful Content Update is a series of Google algorithm updates, first launched in August 2022, designed to demote content written primarily for search engines rather than for people. It introduced a site-wide signal — not just page-level — meaning a site with a large proportion of unhelpful content can see its good pages ranked lower too. The update was folded into Google's core ranking systems in March 2024.
