NewsArticle Schema is a schema.org subtype of Article specifically designed for journalistic news content published by recognised news organisations. In addition to the standard Article properties — headline, author, datePublished, image, publisher — NewsArticle supports properties such as dateline and printEdition. Google uses NewsArticle markup to improve eligibility for the Top Stories carousel in Search and Google News, where timely, structured attribution to a news publisher is a qualifying factor. Google’s News Content Policies require participating publishers to meet standards around transparency, bylines, and original reporting. While NewsArticle markup alone does not guarantee Top Stories placement — editorial quality, freshness, and Google News inclusion are additional factors — its absence can make it harder for Google’s systems to classify a page as credible news content.
