Most Internet marketing vehicles are great at driving traffic and attracting visitors to your Web site. If you've achieved that, are you really making the most out of your traffic? Or do you fail to hold your visitors' attention long enough to actually make a sale or get your message across?

Stop wasting sales opportunities and avoid losing potential customers by following these seven Internet marketing techniques.

1. Sell a product or a service

This Internet marketing technique is a no-brainer. Of course you can't make profit out of your Web site's traffic if you aren't selling anything. Decide on a product or a service that you like or at least have some knowledge about. This way, it will be easier for you to market it to your audience. Some of the easiest products to sell on the Internet are things like e-books and software. They're easy to download and do not require shipping or handling.

2. Consider affiliate marketing

If you don't have your own product or if you can't think of any, consider affiliate marketing as part of your Internet marketing mix. Affiliate marketing is simply selling other people's products for them. This is a win-win situation for both you and the product supplier because you earn a commission from selling their products and the supplier gets more exposure and sales for his business. You have the freedom to choose whatever products you want to endorse.

3. Take advantage of viral marketing

Having a significant number of visitors on your site every day puts you in a position to take advantage of viral marketing. In this Internet marketing technique, you let the people do all the advertising and the promoting for you. Give them a free download or a bonus gift, anything that will get them to start talking and spreading information to their network about you, your product, and your Web site.

4. Offer advertising space

This is another privilege of Web sites that have high traffic. Advertising space, especially on popular Web sites, is very much in demand and can be very lucrative. If your Web site is attracting 2,000 visitors per day, you can charge $300 a month as advertising fees and that's just minimum.

5. Use an opt-in list

Using an opt-in list in an excellent Internet marketing technique. Your Web site may be getting high traffic but not all visitors actually buy your product. Getting them to sign up for your mailing list gives you the opportunity to sell or promote your products to them at a later time and possibly turn them into actual customers. A mailing list is also a great way to keep in touch with your previous buyers and make repeat customers out of them.

6. Make use of pay per click advertising

In this Internet marketing technique, advertisers will pay you a fee every time a visitor clicks on any of their ads on your site. This is a great source of residual income especially if your Web site has thousands of visitors each day. Some of the popular pay per click programs are Google AdSense and Yahoo! Publisher Network.

7. Try pay per lead advertising

In pay per lead advertising, advertisers pay you for every lead that you can generate for them. You can do this by getting visitors to sign up for your advertiser's mailing list. Leads are very valuable to Internet marketing. Advertisers will pay good money for this prized information.
