HFS (Hierarchical File System) is a term used to describe the file organisation on a Macintosh computers hard drive. Every time a hard drive is formatted for use with a Macintosh the files will be put into a HFS and this, in turn will create a directory of files. Windows cannot access these files as they are only Mac compatible.
