Expert Roundup

An expert roundup is a content format in which a publisher solicits short answers or opinions from multiple subject-matter experts on a single question or topic, then publishes them together in one article. The format gained popularity as a link-building tactic because contributors would often share or link to the roundup featuring their quote. However, the format became heavily abused — mass-emailed requests to hundreds of “experts”, superficial questions, and thin one-line responses — leading to a significant drop in link-earning value and editorial credibility. Google’s emphasis on genuine expertise and E-E-A-T has further reduced the SEO return from low-effort roundups. High-quality expert roundups that feature genuine authorities on a topic with substantive responses can still earn links and build brand relationships, but the format is no longer the reliable link magnet it once was.
