Hreflang

Hreflang is an HTML attribute (and its equivalent in XML sitemaps and HTTP headers) that tells search engines which language and region a page is intended for, and which alternative versions exist for other languages or regions. It prevents different-language versions of the same content from competing with each other in search results. Getting hreflang right is notoriously fiddly — the annotations must be complete and reciprocal across all language variants.
