A web application that uses modern browser capabilities — service workers, the Web App Manifest, push notifications — to behave more like a native installed app. Hallmarks: installable to the home screen, runs in a standalone window, works offline. Examples include Twitter Lite, Pinterest, and Starbucks ordering. PWAs have no special ranking treatment in Google search but benefit indirectly: they tend to score well on Core Web Vitals, work without an app store, and can re-engage users via push. The PWA acronym is now somewhat dated — most of its components are simply "modern web platform features".
