| SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) is a type of interface that is used to connect an ATA hard drive to the motherboard of a computer. The transfer rates of SATA are much faster than ATA transfer rates and it is very likely that SATA will take over ATA. As an SATA has its own bus there is no bandwidth competition. As very thin cables are used with SATA it makes for improved airflow inside the computer. Parallel ATAs had to use 40 conductors whereas the SATA uses only 7 which reduces electromagnetic interference. |
